The Stones in the Wire Crochet Jewellery

Brazilian artist Miriam Chor Freitas, who now lives in California, learned to crochet wire jewelry in  Peru.  Her work is unique, one-of-a-kind and very pretty to look at. Her style combines the unique influence of her  Brazilian background and a laid back California lifestyle with influences from both fine jewelry and artisan crafting. The handcrafted crochet combined with other elements of handcrafted jewelry work elevate the items to a state of art. Her jewellery is wearable for everyday for the wearer. "The highlight of our work is a flawless crochet technique that creates perfectly symmetrical stitches that result in amazing eye-catching wire jewelry designs.”

The designer that I got is Yannik Mur. She is a French artist. Every year she launches a new collection. Her collections tend to stand out because of the way she combines wire work with precious and rough materials. She also uses crochet to create her jewellery and create the sense of line with in her jewellery. By her doing or using these material these material and techniques it gives her pieces that form of elegance and causal style, which allows the wearer to wear it everyday. With my research I am looking into crochet and mixing precious material with non-precious materials, and the style of my jewellery should be elegant and causal so that the wearer is able to wear the jewelley everyday.

The technique that I will be making use of is to incorporate the crochet with solid metal, by either making crochet elements out of  crochet yarn or wool  which I set in to metal. Then I would also use wire to crochet jewellery pieces which are in 3 dimension forms. I will be making use of geometric shapes as well as to look at things in nature whether its plants or animals. The materials I would like to put together and crochet a piece with metal and yarn together in one piece will use the yarn as contrast of colour with either the gold or silver wire.

I was inspired by crochet techniques and designs. I explored with the patterns and the stitches from the crochet. I then explored with the use of punches to create the look of crochet by making use of plate. I also used wire to crochet but I was exploring in crochet 3 dimension objects as I didn't want to work with flat objects. I want my B-Tech question to explore 3 dimension objects in crochet  with use of mixed materials like yarn and silver, gold wire. i would like to in corporate this technique with commercial jewellry that one will be able to wear it everyday. how I see that if I could incorporate it with commercial jewellery it could be a great contribution to elegance of everyday jewellery. Even though this technique is being already made use in jewellery, but not many make use of mixing actual precious metal with the crochet yarn.
